On November 14, 2019, Nathaniel Tennosuke Berhow, killed two of his classmates and injured three more at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, California, on his 16th birthday. He had six bullets and he put the sixth one into his own head – and died the next day. The shooting began at 7:38 a.m., before the beginning of classes.
He pulled his .45 caliber handgun from his backpack and fired on fellow students in the school's quad. Surveillance footage documented his actions as he fired one round before the pistol apparently jammed, causing him to take time to fix the gun. He then continued to fire on students, shooting an additional four people. One of the students was shot in the stomach. A student was found in the school's choir room where she had moved to safety from the quad, and another was shot outside the school. The total time of his attack lasted sixteen seconds.
During an investigation of Berhow’s residence, officers discovered several weapons, some which were not registered, which may have belonged to his dead hunter father.<15>
